What gets funded on Optimism
Retroactive, not upfront. The tracker lists Optimism Retro Funding as public-goods retro funding: focus “Impact already delivered on the Superchain”, ticket “Varies (retroactive)”, stage “Live”, no equity.
Missions. Funding runs through Retro Funding missions; the tracker lists Onchain Builders and Dev Tooling. Projects enroll via OP Atlas.
Because the reward follows impact, the application is evidence (usage, contracts, tooling other teams rely on) rather than a roadmap.

Which route fits your team
- Onchain app that is live on the Superchain — Onchain Builders mission: enroll the project in OP Atlas.
- Developer tooling others already use — Dev Tooling mission, also through OP Atlas.
- Not live yet — Retro Funding has nothing to reward until there is impact. Fund the build with an upfront grant first (see the next section), then enroll once the project is live.
- Open-source public good — Also look at Octant (Ethereum public goods, live stage) and the quadratic rounds on Gitcoin and Giveth.
Chain-agnostic options
Ecosystem programs fund work on their own chain. The options below do not depend on the chain you build on, and none of them stops you from applying to the Optimism program above as well.
ZK Prime Capital grants. $5K–$75K, no equity, idea or prototype stage welcome, reply within 5 business days. There is no exclusivity: a team can take a ZK Prime grant for the build and enroll in Retro Funding once the project is live. If the milestone ships, the fund can continue into a $50K–$250K round, 3–6 months of incubation and a token launch. How the program works.
