Getting a grant

Where the money is, who gives it, and what to do when the first answer is no.

How do I get a web3 grant with no product yet?

Apply to programs that pay for a first deliverable instead of traction. In our tracker, Superteam Earn (up to $10K per grant) and ZK Prime Capital ($5K–$75K) are listed at idea / prototype stage, and the Starknet Foundation offers Seed Grants of up to $25K in STRK for an MVP or proof of concept. In place of a product, show one checkable milestone, a line-item budget, an architecture document or prototype, and links to what the team has shipped before. The full checklist is in “Idea-stage web3 funding: what you can raise before you have a product”.

Which web3 grant programs are open in 2026, and where can I find a list?

Our Web3 Grants Tracker lists 27 programs, last verified 2026-09-27: ecosystem foundations, protocol DAOs, community funds, public-goods rounds and our own VC grant program, each with its ticket, equity terms and stage. Our program guides cover the 26 third-party programs one by one. Three status notes from the tracker: the Arbitrum Foundation’s general Foundation and DAO grant programs are listed as inactive, Sui says it no longer runs open grants, and the Polkadot OpenGov Treasury replaces the discontinued Web3 Foundation Grants Program. The same list is kept on GitHub as awesome-web3-grants.

What is the difference between a foundation grant, a DAO grant and a VC grant program?

They answer different questions. Ecosystem foundations fund their chain: they want builders on their own stack. Protocol DAOs fund usage of their protocol, such as integrations, tooling and research. Public-goods rounds fund open-source work, often retroactively or through community matching. VC grant programs fund your company: the grant comes from an investor who may want to back the next round. Knowing which one you are writing to decides how you frame the application. Crypto grants with no equity explains what each type expects in return.

Do I have to build on a specific chain to get a grant?

For ecosystem grants, yes: a foundation funds work on its own stack. In our tracker the Solana Foundation funds open-source infra, tooling and public goods on Solana, the Starknet Foundation funds Starknet apps, tooling and infra, and the Aleo Network Foundation funds privacy-first and zero-knowledge apps and tooling on Aleo. Protocol programs such as the Uniswap Foundation and Aave Grants DAO fund work around their own protocol. VC grant programs can be chain-agnostic. ZK Prime Capital is: what matters is that the chain does real work in your design.

Do I need users or traction to get a grant?

Not everywhere. Some programs in our tracker are gated on a live product: Optimism Retro Funding pays for impact already delivered on the Superchain, Prezenti is listed at “live with usage”, the Aptos Foundation at “live product with early traction”, and Octant funds live Ethereum public goods. Others list no stage requirement, or accept idea and prototype stage. ZK Prime Capital does not need traction for a grant: a working prototype, or a clear design plus a milestone, is enough. Traction matters later, at the round stage.

How long do grant decisions take?

It depends on whether a program is rolling or runs in rounds. Entries in our tracker show the spread: the Aleo Network Foundation lists initial feedback within one week, the Filecoin Foundation a 3-month review cycle, the Interchain Foundation quarterly funding rounds, and Aave Grants DAO takes rolling applications and announces new grantees monthly. Round-based programs such as Gitcoin run seasonal rounds and decide in batches. ZK Prime Capital replies to every application within 5 business days. If the next round is more than a month away, apply to a rolling program in the meantime.

Can I apply to several grant programs at once?

Yes, and it is usually the right move. Foundations, protocol DAOs and fund grant programs pay for different things and generally do not exclude each other, and a milestone already funded by one program is evidence for the next. Use the Web3 Grants Tracker to pick two or three that match your chain, stage and amount. Two rules: check each program’s own terms on disclosing other funding, and do not send identical text everywhere; keep the core one-pager and rewrite the fit paragraph for each program. A ZK Prime Capital grant does not exclude other grants, and the fund accepts the document you wrote for another program.

My grant application was rejected. What should I do next?

Treat it as a process problem first. Most declined applications fail because the reviewer could not tell what the money buys, when it lands, or why that program should be the one paying. Re-scope to one milestone, line-item the budget, add a link a reviewer can open, cut the application to one page, then re-apply to a rolling program while the work is fresh. Say that you were rejected and what you changed. The day-by-day version is in “Your grant got rejected. Here is the 14-day playbook to get funded anyway”.

Amounts, equity and terms

What programs state publicly about ticket sizes, dilution, currency and payment. Amounts are quoted from our tracker.

How much money can I get from a web3 grant?

Stated tickets in our tracker run from micro-grants to seven figures. Superteam Earn lists micro-grants up to $500 and grants up to $10K; the Filecoin Foundation’s Next Step Grants are $5K–$10K; Lido LEGO has tiers of up to $1K, $10K and $100K; the Starknet Foundation lists up to $25K in STRK for Seed Grants and $25K–$1M in STRK for Growth Grants; the Aleo Network Foundation goes up to $100K; the Stellar Community Fund up to $150K in XLM. ZK Prime Capital grants are $5K–$75K. Many foundations list the ticket as “varies”, so size the request to a milestone.

Do web3 grants take equity or tokens?

A grant should not. In our tracker, 26 of 27 programs list equity as “No”. The exception is Sui, where the entry reads “No (research award)” because its other routes include direct investment. Formats can also differ inside one program: the Solana Foundation lists convertible grants next to milestone-based grants, so read the conversion terms before signing. ZK Prime Capital takes no equity and no token allocation at the grant stage. Crypto grants with no equity covers what to check in the terms.

How much can an AI agent project get?

Three third-party programs in our tracker name AI or agents in their focus. Superteam Earn lists agentic and AI grants at up to $10K per grant. Prezenti’s Frontier Pool for AI and agent-economy infrastructure starts at $25K, but wants a live app with usage. The Stacks Foundation lists AI experimentation, with a ticket that varies. ZK Prime Capital funds on-chain AI agents at idea or prototype stage with $5K–$75K. General ecosystem programs also fund agents when the agent is good for their chain. The full map is in “Where on-chain AI agent builders actually get funded in 2026”.

How much should I ask for in a first grant application?

Ask for what one milestone costs, not for the top of the program’s range. Build the number as a bill of materials: three to six line items, such as engineering weeks, review or audit, and infrastructure, that add up to the total. If the total lands outside the program’s stated range, resize the milestone instead of padding or squeezing the numbers. Asking for several times what a program typically writes, or a fraction of its minimum, gets an application declined before anyone reads the technical section. The milestone section of our web3 grant application template has a line for the amount and the budget split.

Are grants paid in stablecoins, tokens or fiat?

It varies by program, and the currency is part of the terms. From our tracker: Starknet Foundation grants are denominated in STRK, the Stellar Community Fund pays in XLM, Polkadot OpenGov Treasury proposals are paid in DOT, Prezenti pays in USDm, Superteam Earn in USDG or USDC, and Octant allocates ETH. If a grant is paid in a volatile token, a budget written in dollars can move between approval and payout, so check on the program’s own page how the amount is fixed and when it is paid.

Are grants paid upfront or by milestone?

Many application-based grants are tied to deliverables. In our tracker the Solana Foundation lists milestone-based grants and the Aleo Network Foundation’s developer grants are milestone-based. A ZK Prime Capital grant is tied to one concrete first milestone, typically getting an MVP to testnet. Retroactive programs work the other way round: Optimism Retro Funding rewards impact already delivered, so the work comes first. Whatever the schedule, write the milestone so that a reviewer who has never spoken to you can verify it on the date you named.

How do retroactive and quadratic funding rounds work?

Retroactive funding pays for impact already delivered: Optimism Retro Funding runs missions such as Onchain Builders and Dev Tooling, with enrollment through OP Atlas. Quadratic funding matches community donations from a pool, so the number of people who back a project matters, not only the amount: Gitcoin runs seasonal rounds, Giveth hosts ecosystem-sponsored matching rounds, and Octant allocates ETH to Ethereum public goods in recurring epochs. Both formats suit open-source work that already has users. They are a second stop, not a first grant for an idea.

What do grant funders expect in return if they take no equity?

Each type wants something different. Ecosystem foundations expect you to build on their chain and ship a public deliverable, and some set licence rules: the Aleo Network Foundation requires open source, and the Filecoin Foundation lists open-source work under MIT or Apache-2 licences. Protocol DAOs and public-goods programs expect integrations or open-source impact. A venture fund with a grant program takes no equity at the grant stage; what it gets is an early look at your progress and the chance to lead your round. Watch for terms that ask for a token allocation later.

A first check with no dilution

ZK Prime Capital grants are $5K–$75K, sized to one milestone, with no equity and no token allocation taken at the grant stage.

Writing the application

What reviewers look for, in the order they look for it.

What should a web3 grant application include?

Four things get funded everywhere: a specific thesis rather than a category, a reason the product has to be on-chain, evidence you can ship, and a milestone the money completes, with an amount, a deliverable and a date. Put them on one page, in the order a reviewer looks for them. Evidence means links: a repo, a prototype, past work. “Extend runway” is not a milestone; an MVP on testnet with two named features working is. Our free web3 grant application template lays the page out section by section.

Is there a free template for a web3 grant application?

Yes. Our web3 grant application template on GitHub is a one-page format with seven short sections: the problem, what you are building, why on-chain, where you are, the milestone this grant completes, what happens after the milestone, and anything else, such as prior grants. It asks you to keep the whole application under 600 words. It is CC0-licensed, so you can fork it and use it for any program, including foundations and DAOs. It is also the format ZK Prime Capital wants to receive.

What do grant committees reject most often?

The same five reasons come up across foundation, DAO and VC grant committees. The ask is runway, not a deliverable. Nothing in the product needs the chain. There is no proof the team can ship: a deck and a roadmap, but no repo or prototype. The budget does not match the scope, or has no line items. And the application is generic or sent to the wrong program, ignoring what that program says it funds. Close behind: no maintenance plan after the grant, and closed-source deliverables sent to programs that require open source. The list is kept in the README of our web3 grant application template.

How do I write a milestone for a grant application?

Name one deliverable, one date and one amount. A good milestone can be checked from outside: an MVP on testnet, a working integration, a benchmark someone else can reproduce. If verifying it would take a call with you, it is not concrete yet. Say how it will be verified: a repo tag, a testnet address, a demo video. If your roadmap has four phases, keep phase one in the application and compress the rest into a single sentence at the end. Section 5 of our web3 grant application template is laid out for exactly this.

What counts as traction if I have no users yet?

Anything small and verifiable. Commits, testnet transactions, users of a previous project, a partner who has agreed in writing to integrate, a waitlist with real names: all of it belongs in the evidence section, and none of it has to be revenue. Small and verifiable beats large and vague. Before a product exists, the team is most of what a reviewer evaluates, so link what each person has shipped: repos, past projects, deployed contracts. A repo with a README that actually runs beats any deck. More in “Idea-stage web3 funding: what you can raise before you have a product”.

Do I need a pitch deck, a whitepaper or a token to apply?

Not for a ZK Prime Capital grant: the application is one link and one paragraph on what you are building, your stage and what the grant unlocks. No deck or whitepaper is required. Other programs set their own required documents, so check each form. A token is not needed, and leading with token design before anything works is a common idea-stage mistake: it reads as the reason the project exists. Put the product first; tokenomics belongs later. What helps most is something a reviewer can open: a demo, a repo or a testnet contract.

What do reviewers look for in an on-chain AI agent application?

Three questions an ordinary dApp never has to answer. Who holds the keys: where the signing key lives, what it may spend and how it is revoked. What the agent actually executes: which transactions, how they are simulated before sending, and what happens on a revert or a stuck transaction. How anyone can verify it: an on-chain audit trail, signed decision logs, or a proof that the agent followed its stated policy. A hot key on a server with unlimited approvals is a red flag. See grants for on-chain AI agents for what we fund and pass on.

After the grant: rounds, incubation, token launch

What a shipped milestone leads to, and how the fund’s own pipeline runs.

What happens after I receive a grant?

You ship the milestone you named and show it: a repo tag, a testnet address or a demo. Grants from foundations typically end at the milestone, although a funded and delivered milestone is strong evidence for your next application. With a fund’s grant program there can be a next stage. At ZK Prime Capital the path is a grant, then an optional $50K–$250K round, then incubation for 3–6 months, then a token launch through the fund’s launchpad. Each step is a separate decision on both sides.

How do I go from a grant to a funding round?

Use the grant to produce what a round needs: a working product and a team that has delivered on a date it named. At ZK Prime Capital traction is not required for a grant, but it matters at the round stage. If the milestone ships and both sides want to continue, the fund can invest $50K–$250K in a priced round. That is the first point where equity or token terms appear at all. “Idea-stage web3 funding: what you can raise before you have a product” walks through the path from grant to round.

Can I take a grant from ZK Prime and not raise from the fund afterwards?

Yes. The grant is non-dilutive and carries no equity or token allocation. The round that may follow is a separate, later decision that needs both sides to agree, and you can decline it. What the fund gets from the grant is an early view of your progress and the chance to lead the round if you want one. It works the other way too: a shipped milestone does not oblige the fund to invest. More on the trade in crypto grants with no equity.

What is incubation, and how long does it take?

Incubation is hands-on work with the team between the first product and the launch: strategy, hiring, product and operations, then tokenomics and go-to-market. At ZK Prime Capital it runs for 3–6 months alongside the $50K–$250K round. The fund works as an operator rather than a passive investor: the team that wrote the first check stays involved through the launch. Some products need longer in incubation than others. “Inside the launchpad: idea to TGE in 90 days” shows how the weeks are divided.

How long does it take to get from an idea to a token launch (TGE)?

At ZK Prime Capital, about 90 days at the fast end: roughly three weeks on the product, three on tokenomics and structure, three on the round and the market, and the rest on the launch itself. The fund has run 14 token launches through its launchpad. It does not always fit in 90 days, and not every team should move that fast; some products need longer in incubation. See “Inside the launchpad: idea to TGE in 90 days” and “Fourteen TGEs later: timing beats everything”.

When should a project launch a token, and what goes wrong most often?

After there is a working product and a community, not before. The failures that show up on launch day are designed in months earlier: team, investor and airdrop unlocks that land in the same window; a circulating supply too small to price honestly; no market-making plan; and emissions that only attract short-term capital. The fixes are unglamorous: align unlocks with real milestones, keep enough float, and treat liquidity as a launch deliverable. Details are in “Tokenomics that survive the first 90 days”.

About ZK Prime Capital

Who is behind the grant program, how to check that, and how to apply.

What is ZK Prime Capital?

ZK Prime Capital is a private full-cycle AI venture fund based in Singapore, founded in 2023. It backs early-stage founders building on-chain AI agents, DeFAI and zero-knowledge infrastructure, and works with them along the whole path: grant, MVP, incubation and token launch. The fund’s public numbers: $48M under management, 37 portfolio companies, 14 token launches, and $3.1M in grants to 60+ teams. Its web3 grant program gives $5K–$75K per team with no equity taken.

Is ZK Prime Capital legit, and how do I verify a team member?

Check public records rather than anyone’s word. The fund has an investor profile on PitchBook and an organization profile on Crunchbase, and its UK contracting and billing entity, Prime Capital Ltd, is on the Companies House register under company number 15617870. The team is not listed publicly, so if someone contacts you claiming to represent ZK Prime, enter the details they gave you in the verify form on the homepage. If they do not verify, treat them with caution and contact the fund only through the official application form.

What does ZK Prime Capital fund?

Three areas, at idea or prototype stage and on any chain: on-chain AI agents (software that holds keys, signs transactions and does verifiable work), DeFAI (AI-driven routing, market making, credit and risk) and zero-knowledge infrastructure (proving systems, ZK tooling, privacy rails). What the fund usually passes on: chat interfaces with a token attached, products that would run the same on a normal server, and ideas that exist only because a token could be attached. Idea-stage funding explains what to show instead of traction.

How do I apply to ZK Prime Capital, and what does the form ask?

Use the application form on the homepage. It asks for a name or alias, a Telegram handle (the fund’s main line of contact), what you need (choose “Grant for an idea”), an optional link, and a few words about the project, up to 1,200 characters: what you are building, your stage and what the grant unlocks. No deck is needed. If you already have a one-pager, put its link in the form. Every application gets a reply within 5 business days.

Why does ZK Prime give grants without taking equity?

Because the grant is how the fund finds its investments. The program exists to turn a strong idea into something real enough to evaluate. The fund sees a team’s progress early and can lead the round when the team is ready; its strongest investments started as a grant it later doubled down on. Most grantees will not become a flagship, and that is expected. So far $3.1M has gone to 60+ teams this way. The reasoning is set out in “Grants over hype: funding ideas before product”.

Can I send ZK Prime an application I wrote for another grant program?

Yes. The fund accepts the same document: if you wrote a one-pager for a foundation or a DAO, do not rewrite it. Put the link in the form and add one paragraph on what the grant unlocks. A rejection elsewhere is not much of a signal to the fund; say where you applied and what you have changed since. The project does need to fit the focus: on-chain AI agents, DeFAI or zero-knowledge infrastructure. For everything else, the program guides list 26 other programs.
